Summary:The present study aimed to determine levels of mercury (Hg) in 5 varieties of fish that are sold more in the Municipal Market of Puerto Bolivar, Canton Machala, compared with the permissible levels of Hg established by WHO and investigate the incidence of consumption of fish contaminated with mercury on the health of consumers. The methodology used was analytical and experimental samples analyzed were established by a survey of consumers and collected in the City, the technique used for the determination of mercury in the fish market of Puerto Bolivar was the atomic absorption spectrophotometry (EEA)
