However there is an increasing interest in the rural community, as fish farming is an alternative that contributes to food security for families, improving their nutritional quality by consuming good quality protein. Tilapia is a fish that reproduces easily and in large numbers in captivity, being sexually mature by age 3 months and repeating it every two months. Females are generally smaller in size while males reach an acceptable market size. Therefore tilapia masculinization is performed to obtain the highest possible percentage of (monosex) male organisms. This research was conducted at the Laboratory of Mariculture, Faculty of Agricultural Sciences, Technical University of Machala, and had the following objectives: 1) To determine the commercial dose of hormone Andriol (undecanoato de testosterona) optimal for an appropriate percentage of masculinization in tilapia, 2) To determine the percentage of survival of fry per treatments, 3) To compare the final weight reached by the fry in the different treatments. The results of this investigation indicate that the percentages of masculinization of tilapia fry undergoing hormone Andriol varied between 58% and 80.30% in the three treatments, with the dose of 90 mg/kg reporting the highest percentage of masculinization. It is also noted that Andriol at a concentration of 30 mg/kg feed a survival rate of 85.3% was obtained, whereas those fed at a concentration of 60 mg/kg a survival percentage of 82.7% was reported. In a similar fashion, adding a higher hormone concentration (90 mg / kg) reported a further decrease in survival rate (78%). With the data here presented, it can be concluded that the observed percentage of masculinization is directly proportional to the concentration of hormone applied. Furthermore, survival rates obtained in this research show that as the dose of hormone increased, this directly affected the survival of organisms under treatment.

Sin embargo existe un mayor interés por la comunidad rural ya que la piscicultura es una alternativa que aporta a la seguridad alimentaria de las familias, mejorando su calidad nutricional al consumir proteína de buena calidad. La tilapia es un animal que se reproduce fácilmente y en gran número en cautiverio, sexualmente está madura a los 3 meses de edad y lo repite cada dos meses, generalmente las hembras son de talla pequeña y los machos alcanzan una talla aceptable al mercado, por esta razón se realiza la masculinización en tilapias para obtener el mejor porcentaje posible de organismos (monosexo) machos. La presente investigación se realizó en el Laboratorio de Maricultura de la Unidad Académica de Ciencias Agropecuarias, de la Universidad Técnica de Machala, ubicado en el Cantón Machala, y tuvo los siguientes objetivos: 1) Determinar la dosis comercial de hormona Andriol (Undecanoato de testosterona) óptima para obtener un buen porcentaje de masculinización en tilapias, 2) Determinar el porcentaje de sobrevivencia de los alevines, en los tratamientos, 3) Comparar el peso de los alevines alcanzado en los diferentes tratamientos. Los resultados de la presente investigación indican que los organismos que, los porcentajes de masculinización de los alevines de tilapia sometidos a la hormona Andriol variaron entre 58% y 80.3% en los tres tratamientos, siendo la dosis de 90 mg/kg la que obtuvo el mayor porcentaje de masculinización. También se observa que con una concentración de Andriol a 30mg/kg de alimento se obtuvo un porcentaje de sobrevivencia del 85.3%, mientras que los alevines alimentados con una concentración de 60mg/kg alimento s reportó un porcentaje e sobrevivencia del 85.7%y, los organismos que fueron alimentados con la concentración de hormona más alta (90mg/kg alimento) reportaron una tasa de sobrevivencia menor (78%). Con los datos expuestos, se puede concluir que el porcentaje de masculinización observado, es directamente proporcional a la concentración de hormona aplicada.
