It is important for sonographers, given the diversity of methods described, unified metrics, considering the method of the four quadrants, described by Phelan, the most versatile, reproducible and constitutes the most widely used, in our country it is known and sought after as ILA. Actúa principalmente como protección para el feto y proporciona una temperatura estable, amortiguación ante traumatismos externos y permite la libre circulación de fluidos, necesarios para el normal desarrollo de los pulmones. Este es un estudio descriptivo para lo cual se recopilo información de diferentes fuentes secundarias, como textos, revistas, pagina web, analizando los contenidos y substrayendo lo pertinente al tema explicado que permite explicar la importancia del líquido amniótico mediante el estudio de su origen, consideraciones clínicas, ecográficas para evaluar la calidad de vida del feto. Es importante que los ecografistas, ante la diversidad de métodos descritos, unifiquen criterios de medición, considerando al método de los cuatro cuadrantes, descrito por Phelan, como el más versátil, reproducible y se constituye en el más utilizado, en nuestro medio es conocido y solicitado como ILA.
