| Tóm tắt: | The Santa Clara Island Marine Reserve has a great variety of marine birds, among which we have the Brown Pelican (Pelecanus occidentalis) which is a pelecaniform species belonging to the Pelecanidae family, it is distributed by the Pacific Ocean, the Atlantic Ocean and in the Caribbean Islands. The Pelecanus occidentalis is located in the upper part of the Santa Clara Island Marine Reserve because in this area of the island you can find the "muyuyo", since this species only nests in shrub species reaching an average of 4 to 5 nests by bush, methodologically the research process was based on in-situ research, direct observation, and bibliographic research, through the application of techniques and research methods such as direct observation and population monitoring, it was possible to know what the behavior is of the Brown Pelican during its different stages of growth, and its current population index on the island showing that during its chick stage the disturbance is greater on the part of the invaders showing an attitude of rejection regurgitating their food or jumping out of their nest, identifying the problems that harms this species on the island; arriving to conclude that one of the main problems affecting the Pelecanos occidentalis is the lack of nesting areas given that only 2 quadrants have considerable vegetation, one of the factors that influence this problem is the usurpation of nests by the frigate (Fregata) this is due to the presence of tourists in the upper part of the island, in the presence of people the Brown Pelican leaves its nest leaving it vulnerable to the invasion of it, the conditioning of the area through reforestation with muyuyo and the creation of a manual is a viable proposal, reforesting 229 seedlings of muyuyo, expanding its area of animation with 916 nests approximately assuring the preservation of Pelecanus occidentalis in the Marine Reserve, the complementation of the manual will help to control the behavior of the tourists when entering the island, making known a set of rules of behavior. The elaboration of the preservation manual directed to the visitors of the island will establish the knowledge of the characteristics of the species, its habits, its behavior during its life cycle and the impact generated by the presence of tourists within its nesting area. , and through coordination with the provincial directorate of the environment of El Oro, measures will be established aimed at the behavior that the tourist must comply with when entering the island, allowing to establish successful strategies aimed at mitigating the negative impact due to human activities causing the decrease of this biological species. The conditioning of the habitat projects an improvement of the living conditions of this species, reforesting with very much the months of November and December the quadrants C and E, using for it the endemic species of the island (the muyuyo); through the creation of a greenhouse that has climatic conditions similar to that of the island; so that this species at the time of transplanting can adapt with relative ease. |
