Zusammenfassung:The use of supplementary materials in EFL classes: a comparative analysis of public and private high schools is the topic of this research study. This research intends to determine the type of supporting materials used in EFL public and private high schools and compare their uses among them. The present research took place in two high schools, one private and one public in the city of Cuenca, where a total of fifteen EFL classes were observed in each one of these institutions. In this research study, first we selected the bibliographical support, and then five classes were observed in 8th, 9th and 10th grades in each high school, helped by observation sheets it was possible to take notes in each class, also questionnaires were provided to teachers and students to collect data. The qualitative and quantitative methods were used in the description, analysis and interpretation of results. These results show that the use of supplementary materials is more common in private high schools and have positive effects on improving students’ learning in terms of language quality and language production.
