| description | La presente investigación trata sobre los estudiantes del idioma Inglés y su motivación para aprender el idioma, tiene como propósito analizar la percepción de los estudiantes en relación con su motivación para aprender Inglés dentro de las aulas de clase, y conocer que factores motivan a aprender el Inglés así como que factores obstaculizan su aprendizaje. El estudio se llevó a cabo en un colegio privado de la ciudad de Quito. La población para esta investigación fue de 100 estudiantes de octavo de básica hasta segundo año de bachillerato. La información fue recopilada a través de cuestionarios aplicados a los estudiantes así como observaciones durante las clases de Inglés. Para cumplir el propósito de esta investigación, fueron aplicados los métodos cualitativo y cuantitativo. Los resultados obtenidos revelaron que existe una falta de motivación en los estudiantes de secundaria en la Unidad Educativa como consecuencia de losmétodos, estrategias y material básico (texto) utilizado por los maestros. Los profesores en algunos casos no brindan apoyo ni retroalimentación a los estudiantes, ni tampoco los incentivan con estrategias de motivación como por ejemplo recompensándolos |

Its purpose is to analyze the students´ perception in relation to their motivation to learn English inside the classroom and to know the factors that motivate students to learn, as well as the factors that hinder them from learning the new language. The study was carried out in a private high school in Quito. The sample for this research included 100 students from eighth grade to second year of baccalaureate. The data was gathered through questionnaires applied to students and English class observations. In order to fulfill the purpose of this investigation, a qualitative and quantitative method was applied. The results obtained revealed that there is a lack of motivation in high school students as a consequence of their not understanding the methodology, the strategies, and the basic material (eg. textbook) used by teachers. Teachers in some cases do not support students or provide feedback nor do they encourage students with motivational strategies such as rewarding.
