description This study took place in Cuyabeno, Sucumbíos province, in the Amazon Region of Ecuador. It is aimed at researching on a descriptive analysis of Anglicism used in Ecuadorian magazines. In order to elaborate the literature review, different linguistics aspects and other studies about Anglicism in Ecuador and other countries were considered, to obtain a variety of information and support our thesis. Therefore, the data collected was obtained in six national magazines from 2009 to 2010 specialized in scholarly, cultural and general interests. The data collected was listed in tables through the qualitative and quantitative methods. The analysis was based on linguistic and comparative aspects. For the linguistic analysis the syntactic, semantic and morphological aspects were considered. For the comparative analysis, the most frequent Anglicism were considered in order to know which Anglicism is the most popular and to know which variable contains the highest number of Anglicism. Once analyzed, the results demonstrated that the ten most frequent Anglicisms are: burnout, gay, internet, rock, rol, show, pop, ranking, software, and stress; it is due to the overwhelming influence of the modern technology on our country, there are words that journalists use in national magazines not because there is lack of an - 2 - equivalent in our mother language but mainly to draw readers‟ attention or cause a greater impression. Finally, the results proved that, variable of general interest had the highest number of Anglicism´s terms; even so the difference with the other two variables is not very significant in terms of percentage. This study concluded that there is an excessive use of Anglicism in magazines published in Ecuador; therefore this excessive use, causes a great damage of our mother tongue.
