This study focuses on examining the impact of mobile genetic elements (specifically IS, ICE, CIME, and IME) on the pathogenicity of Xylella fastidiosa. These elements are known for their ability to transport and reorganize genes within the bacterial genome, which can result in significant changes in the bacteria's pathogenic capabilities. Our results indicate that, despite the low abundance and distribution of IS, ICE, and IME, these elements contain virulence-associated genes and indeed influence the pathogenicity of the bacterium. Additionally, the presence of prophage genetic material in IS and IME suggests their relevance in the genomic configuration of the pathogen. In conclusion, our findings provide new insights into how mobile genetic elements contribute to the virulence of Xylella fastidiosa. |

Originalmente confinada a las Américas, en años recientes han surgido brotes de esta bacteria en diferentes países de Europa y Asia, representando una creciente amenaza para la agricultura global debido a su facilidad de propagación mediante vectores que se alimentan de la savia de las plantas infectadas. Este estudio se centra en estudiar el impacto de los elementos genéticos móviles (específicamente IS, ICE, CIME e IME) en la patogenicidad de Xylella fastidiosa. Estos elementos son conocidos por su capacidad para transportar y reorganizar genes dentro del genoma bacteriano, lo que puede resultar en cambios significativos en las capacidades patogénicas de las bacterias. Nuestros resultados indican que, a pesar de la baja abundancia y distribución de IS, ICE e IME, estos elementos contienen genes asociados a virulencia y sí influyen en la patogenicidad de la bacteria. Además, la presencia de material genético de profagos en IS e IME sugiere su relevancia en la configuración genómica del patógeno.
