Prevalencia del gusano del corazón (Dirofilaria immitis) diagnosticada por el método de gota gruesa del albergue el perro feliz del cantón Sucre

This research work was carried out in the canton Sucre of Manabí province, aiming to evaluate the prevalence of the worm of the heart (Dirofilaria Immitis) diagnosed by the thick drop method in the house "The Happy Dog". It is a descriptive study, the percentage method was used to determine the percentage of positive animals and the test of 2 (Chi-square) of independence at 5% significance to identify the relationship between the variables (age, sex, genetic group, fur color and weight). A total of 100 dogs with normal health appearance are sampled between September and October 2020. 36 positive animals were found representing a prevalence of 36% of Dirofilaria Immitis. The results make it possible to conclude that there is the presence of parasitic and a high prevalence of Dirofilaria Immitis. The behavior of the presence of parasite is not related to the study variables, acts independently, it is concluded that vectors (Aedes, Anopheles and Culex gender mosquitoes) can transmit the disease to dogs regardless of sex, age, genetic group, fur color and weight.
