Influencia del uso de suelo en el aprovechamiento de recursos naturales de la microcuenca del río Carrizal, caso Julián y Severino

This research was aimed in identifying the degree of influence of soil use for agricultural and livestock activities upon the exploitation of natural resources in the carrizal River microwatershed. The methodology was non-experimental; instead, the descriptive method was employed by means of observation, data collection, surveys, satellite imagery and geo referencing. The results show evidence of change in soil use throughout the last years as a consequence of the La Esperanza Dam construction, reduction of forest cover and agricultural frontier expansion, influencing the use of soils and the exploitation of natural resources. In addition, it was determined that 17.99% of the land owned by the farmers is allocated to short-term crops, 31,99% to pastureland, 17,04% to natural forest cover, and 32,98% to perennial crops. Furthermore, thematic maps showing land use and cover were created. Image overlap was performed with forestry data, which were the most affected category. Reduction in forest cover varied on a yearly basis: in 2000, 31%, in 2011, 22%, and in 2014, 17%. It is concluded that the most predominant activity is agriculture and livestock production representing 60% of land use. 85% of farmers grow short-cycle and perennial crops. According to the land use maps, it can be seen that natural forest cover has been reduced by 14% from 2000 to 2014 due to agricultural frontier expansion. Finally, proposals for good practices in soil conservation and mitigation measures were recommended.
