| Zusammenfassung: | In order to evaluate the cocoa agri-food chain with a focus on food losses in the Bolívar canton, the sectors of production, actors and degree of contribution were determined, losses were identified and strategies for their reduction were proposed. The research was conducted from January to September 2019 in three phases: preparatory, data collection and information processing, was non-experimental and mixed using the deductive and inductive methods. As techniques the survey and the interview were applied applying questionnaires of the Methodology of Evaluation of the Agrifood Chain of the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (2016), which includes 26 components in its Pre-Production, Production, Post-harvest and Marketing axes. According to the results, 67% of the product that was harvested was suitable for the market, 16% on average is the product that is dried and sold to intermediaries, corresponds to the lowest quality contaminated with monilia; and, 17% corresponds to total losses of cocoa, the main causes being pests and diseases, lack of irrigation, inappropriate cultural practices, high production costs, among others. In postharvest, the losses are low, being on average at 1% because the product is selected before purchase. The strategies proposed include aspects such as training to improve the quality of cocoa, strengthen marketing links, incorporate women in relevant issues, financing opportunities, improve infrastructure with the strengthening of support services, among others. |
