The young Ecuadorians that listen to techno music and participate in techno parties come from upper-class families and use techno as a way to separate themselves from Ecuadorian pop culture, which they reject. The techno party is a weekend ritual that marks a break from daily life (releasing tension, creating a feeling of well-being, etc.) and that roots the participants in the local as they are absorbing European and American culture. |
