Description
Summary:The Ecuadorian techno phenomenon began in Montañita around 1992-1993 and developed principally in Quito and Guayaquil. The emergence and development of this phenomenon has been influenced by techno movements from Europe and the USA and by foreigners. The young Ecuadorians that listen to techno music and participate in techno parties come from upper-class families and use techno as a way to separate themselves from Ecuadorian pop culture, which they reject. The techno party is a weekend ritual that marks a break from daily life (releasing tension, creating a feeling of well-being, etc.) and that roots the participants in the local as they are absorbing European and American culture.
