Description
Summary:Maize (Zea mays) is a cereal of great importance for human and animal food security. Yields are conditioned by genetic and nutritional factors, especially Nitrogen (N), incorrect application can affect grain yield or cause environmental damage. In this research, the effect of two commercial hybrids of hard yellow maize by nitrogen dose and grain yield was studied. This work was carried out during the months of June to November of the year 2019, in the premises of the Pichilingue Tropical Experimental Station at the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INIAP), belonging to Mocache canton, Los Ríos province. Doses of 0, 69, 138, 207 y 276 kg.ha-1 of nitrogen were evaluated. For the development of the research, a plot of 1440 m2 was used, designed in complete blocks at random in divided plots, with three repetitions and twelve treatments. The variables were subjected to statistical analysis and the analysis of variance was used to determine the interaction between hybrids and nitrogen, the means of each treatment were compared using Tukey's test (p>0.05). The high-yield hybrid H2 expressed its productive potential with the evaluated doses of N; however, doses higher than 69 kg.ha-1 of N are not necessary for this hybrid as it has the same behavior in its grain yield.
