| Samenvatting: | Water hardness is a frequent problem that affects the quality of use of different water sources, which is why this research project aims to design and validate a filter based on eggshells and barley shells as adsorbent material for the reduction of hardness present in drinking water in the city of Riobamba. The methods used for the preparation of these organic wastes was a thermal treatment of barley shells and eggshells in an oven at 90°C and 200°C respectively, on the other hand, additional treatment was given to eggshells in an essential medium (NaOH), After that, the barley shells were milled and the eggshells were crushed, and then sieved, obtaining for the two organic materials two particle sizes < 850 microns that obtained an efficiency of 18%, despite having a higher efficiency than the other filter prototypes the percentage is low compared to other materials, so it is suggested to continue with more experimental studies of these organic materials to find the correct method to improve the efficiency in the removal of water hardness. |
