Description
Summary:Real-time environmental monitoring is crucial for sustainable resource management, driving the development of efficient technological solutions that support this goal. IoT and LoRaWAN technologies have emerged as innovative alternatives, overcoming the limitations of traditional systems by offering low energy consumption, wide range, and scalability. This project implemented a monitoring system based on these technologies at the National University of Chimborazo. The system follows a four-layer architecture as specified in the IEEE P2413.1 standard. The perception layer uses environmental sensors with TTGO-LoRa32 modules. The network layer transmits data at 915 MHz via an LPS8v2 gateway to the Things Network (TTN) server. The service layer stores information in AWS Timestream, while the application layer visualizes data using Grafana. During three days of testing, with measurements taken every 30 seconds, the system demonstrated high accuracy when compared to the ESPOCH weather station, showing a correlation coefficient (R²) of greater than 0.832. These results validate the IoT/LoRaWAN system as a viable, efficient, and economical solution for environmental monitoring, significantly outperforming conventional methods in both performance and accessibility. Successful implementation in academic settings opens up possibilities for its adoption in various ecological management contexts.
