Riassunto:This research proposes collaborative learning as a pedagogical strategy to enhance reading comprehension among EGB students at Unidad Educativa Intercultural Bilingüe Sumak Kawsay. The goal is to promote teamwork, interaction, and meaningful learning within an intercultural educational environment. Collaborative learning encourages social interaction, problem-solving, and teamwork, ultimately fostering academic development in reading comprehension, including the ability to interpret and reflect on the main ideas of a text. To achieve this overarching objective, three specific objectives were established: first, to identify the current level of reading comprehension among the students; second, to describe the various levels of reading comprehension present in the studied population; and finally, to design pedagogical activities based on collaborative learning strategies that address the identified needs. The research employed a quantitative approach with descriptive field research, utilizing a questionnaire as the data collection instrument to assess the comprehension levels of a purposive sample of 52 ninth-grade EGB students at the Intercultural Bilingual Educational Unit Sumak Kawsay. Initial results indicated that most students faced inferential and critical comprehension challenges, which hindered their ability to interpret and reflect on texts. Collaborative activities were designed to encourage peer interaction and group work, strengthening analysis, interpretation, and synthesis skills. In conclusion, collaborative learning is an effective tool for developing reading comprehension, particularly in intercultural contexts, and it significantly enhances educational quality in diverse environments.
