要約:Introduction: The problem of nosocomial infections is closely related to infectious hospital waste management and hospital practices. Although there have been advances in infection control, risks to patients persist and the health care system is experiencing difficulties due to poor compliance with biosafety protocols and inadequate hospital waste management. Objective: To evaluate the correspondence between hospital infectious waste management and nosocomial infections. Materials and Methods: The study followed a qualitative approach and a systematic method through a literature review where the exploration was carried out in various databases such as Google Scholar, Medline, Web of Science and Pubmed. Results and Discussion: The results revealed inconsistencies in the implementation of strategies to manage infectious hospital waste that facilitates the spread of infections, observed a high incidence where urinary tract infections, surgical site infections and bacteremia are the most frequent. Conclusions: it is necessary to improve hospital waste management and reinforce prevention measures together with the management of nosocomial infections in ordêr to decrease their incidence and reduce the time spent in the hospital, which would help to optimize resources and associated costs.
