Gaia:The convergence of artificial intelligence (AI) and data protection in Ecuador presents a complex scenario, where optimisation opportunities coexist with risks such as privacy violations. The overall objective of this research is to identify the benefits and risks of the application of artificial intelligence in the protection of personal data in Ecuador. This scenario was analysed, considering the Ecuadorian legal framework and the challenges in the implementation of data governance. Through a qualitative approach, the current state of the AI ecosystem in Ecuador, current regulations and obstacles in data governance were examined. The findings reveal that, while AI can boost efficiency and security in data protection, it can also strengthen data governance to mitigate inherent risks. AI, used responsibly and with transparency, can be an invaluable tool for data protection in Ecuador, provided that ethics and fundamental rights are respected. Data governance emerges as a fundamental pillar to ensure a safe and beneficial use of AI in this area. In conclusion, AI offers transformative potential for data protection in Ecuador, but its implementation must be guided by an ethical and responsible approach, backed by a robust regulatory framework and effective data governance. Only in this way can its potential be fully realised, minimising risks and ensuring that the technology serves the well-being of Ecuadorian society.
