Тойм:The guinea pig is a post gastric fermenter that, due to its digestive physiology, makes better use of highly fibrous foods that help to improve the productive parameters and profitability of the producer. The objective of this research was to evaluate productive parameters in guinea pigs (Cavia porcellus) in the weaning stage fed with different sources of soluble fiber. Thirty type A1 guinea pigs of both sexes weaned at 15 days of age with an average weight of 267.4 ± 66.4 g were randomly distributed in galvanized cages of 51x42x26 cm with their respective feeders and drinkers. A randomized block design was applied where the variable of variation was the treatment and the random factor was the litter. The experimental diets were formulated and prepared according to the nutritional requirements for the growth stage. Three treatments were evaluated whose variation is the source of soluble fiber such as alfalfa meal, pectin and orange pulp. The variables studied were live weight, average daily gain, average daily feed intake and feed conversion. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the treatments in the parameters evaluated; however, the average live weight was 362.8 g, weight gain 95.4 g, average daily consumption 33.4 g and feed conversion of 3.85 g. In addition, it was observed that the diet with alfalfa meal tends to improve feed intake and feed conversion in male guinea pigs (p=0.084) and (p=0.072) respectively. It is concluded that the inclusion of alfalfa as a source of soluble fiber in the diet of guinea pigs in the post-weaning period tends to improve productive parameters.
