Beskrivelse
Summary:Cocoa (Teobroma cacao L.) is one of the main crops in Ecuador, being the Amazon one of the regions that is characterized in this crop. The presence of acidity (pH < 5.5) in the soils of this region is limiting the availability and absorption of nutrients in cocoa plantations. This is the reason why, for the present work, it was proposed to evaluate the effect of shade and liming on physiological and productive variables in cocoa clone EETP-800. The experimental trial was conducted at the El Padmi Experimental Station, part of the National University of Loja, under a completely randomized design (CRD) with a bifactorial arrangement in established plants of cocoa clone EETP-800 of 2 years of age, with a total of four treatments composed of different levels of liming and shading, and four replicates of the physiological and productive variables evaluated, with the shade treatment being the best. The use of shade and liming applied in the study did not show significant effects on the physiological parameters evaluated, such as crown diameter, leaf area index, trunk cross section, pH and soil electrical conductivity; however, chlorophyll concentration did show significant differences between the limed (T2) and shaded (T3) treatments. The productive parameters (fruit size, yield, brix, acidity, moisture, fat, protein and ash) did not show significant effects of shade and liming, which suggests that clone EETP-800 has good adaptability in this zone.
