El aprendizaje experiencial para la enseñanza de las Ciencias Naturales en cuarto grado de la Escuela Matilde Hidalgo de Procel, Loja 2024

Nowadays, education is facing the great challenge of adapting its methodologies to enhance meaningful learning and the students’ holistic development. The general objective of this paper is to analyse the incidence of the experiential learning in the teaching of Natural Sciences in fourth grade students from Matilde Hidalgo de Procel School, Loja, during 2024. The Experiential learning is based on the active participation of students in practical situations and their reflection on their experiences, thus promoting experimentation and problem solving. This research was of a Descriptive-Explanatory type. It focused on a sample population of students to whom the pre-test and post-test were applied in order to evaluate their academic performance. The results evidenced a significant improvement: 70% of the students reached a level of mastery of the required learning after the application of experiential learning, in contrast to the initial 0%. Also, the percentage of students who did not achieve the required learning decreased from 30% to 0%. These results highlight the effectiveness of experiential learning in improving conceptual understanding and skills such as critical thinking and collaboration. The activities addressed specifically Natural Science topics, which were developed in groups, to encourage collaboration and the use of a variety of materials. Feedback sessions allowed the teaching strategies to be adjusted according to the students’ needs. In conclusion, experiential learning proved to be an effective pedagogical strategy for teaching Natural Sciences, promoting greater interest, performance and knowledge retention among students, and offering valuable insights for future improvements in educational methodologies.
