要約:Due to its high percentage composition, the treatment of organic waste is a fundamental factor in the management of municipal solid waste; In this context, this research aims to propose a piles composting system for the treatment of organic matter generated in the central market of the city of Gualaquiza, to reduce its volume in the final disposal stage. Through the characterization of solid waste from the study area, a per capita generation of 0.21 kg/inhabitant*day and a sample density of 256.14 kg/m3 were obtained, in addition, 84.16 % of the total waste was organic. Subsequently, for the experimental design, a pilot composting system was developed using three triangular piles with similar base and length dimensions, but different heights (P1=1.5 m; P2=1.2 m; P3=1 m); the 1.5 m high battery presented a better evolution in the parameters of temperature, pH and odor, also reaching the highest performance among each one (32 %). Finally, considering the data obtained, it was determined that 191 m2 is the minimum total area necessary for a composting system that allows the continuous treatment of organic waste from the central market of Gualaquiza, where 14 m2 are allocated for storage, 140 m2 for the degradation of the matter and 37 m2 for post-treatment. Keywords: Composting, urban solid waste, organic waste, treatment.
