The aim of this research was to evaluate the effect of three levels of shade on physiological and productive parameters in cocoa, clone EETP-800 that was carried out at the fifth Experimental “El Padmi” in Zamora Chinchipe, on two-year-old plants. The experimental design was completely randomized (DCA) with 7 repetitions, three treatments: no shade 0% and shade 35% and 80%. Morpho-physiological variables such as crown diameter, stem diameter leaf area index (FIA), chlorophyll content were measured. For production variables, the absolute growth rate (AWR), number of seeds per fruit, estimated yield were taken into account, as well as Brix degrees, acidity, fat content, protein, ash and moisture of the almond were evaluated. In the morphophysiological variables, the index of leaf area and crown diameter were higher for the treatment 80 % shade, since the lower light exposure, the higher the index of leaf area and crown diameter. The highest chlorophyll index was presented by the shade at 35%, this is because the plants need a lightening. As for the performance parameters, no significant differences were found which would indicate that in clone EETP-800 may not need shade in this area. Sin embargo, a nivel nacional el bajo rendimiento es un problema evidente que afecta al sector cacaotero, entre los factores que limitan la producción de cacao es el mal manejo del cultivo debido al desconocimiento de criterios técnicos sobre el efecto que causaría el uso de la sombra sobre el rendimiento y calidad de los frutos. El objetivo de la presente investigación consistió en evaluar el efecto de tres niveles de sombra sobre parámetros fisiológicos y productivos en cacao, clon EETP-800 que se llevó a cabo en la quinta Experimental “El Padmi” en Zamora Chinchipe, en plantas de dos años de edad. El diseño experimental fue completamente al azar (DCA) con 7 repeticiones, tres tratamientos: sin sombra 0 % y sombra al 35 % y 80 %. Se midieron variables morfofisiológicas como diámetro de la copa, circunferencia del tallo índice de área foliar (IAF), contenido de clorofila. Para variables productivas se tomó en cuenta la tasa de crecimiento absoluto (TCA), número de semillas por fruto, rendimiento estimado, además se evaluó Grados brix, acidez, contenido de grasa, proteína, ceniza y humedad de la almendra. En las variables morfofisiologicas el índice de área foliar y diámetro de copa fueron mayor para el tratamiento 80 % de sombra ya que a menor exposición lumínica mayor índice de área foliar y diámetro de copa. El mayor índice de clorofila lo presentó la sombra al 35 % esto se debe a que las plantas necesitan un aclareo. En cuanto a los parámetros de rendimiento, no se encontraron diferencias significativas lo que se indicaría que en clon EETP-800 puede no necesitar sombra en esta zona.
