Presencia de Malassezia pachydermatis en perros (Canis lupus familiaris) con lesiones dermatológicas en el cantón Salitre, provincia del Guayas

This work was carried out with the objective of being able to determine whether or not the presence of Malassezia pachydermatis exists in dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) with dermatological lesions in the Salitre canton, province of Guayas. For the study, a total of 50 samples of dogs were taken where the results were the following 10 dogs tested positive for Malassezia pachydermatis, equivalent to 20% of the population, while 40 dogs tested negative. equivalent to 80% of the population, according to sex, 27 dogs were evaluated, where 7 tested positive, equivalent to 70%, while 23 bitches were evaluated, resulting in 3 positive cases, equivalent to 30%, according to the breed, 8 breeds considered in the study sample were evaluated, the breed with the highest number of positive cases was the mixed race, with a total of 5 positive cases of which 18 were evaluated, which represents the 50% of the presence of Malassezia in this area; In second place, there is the poodle breed with 4 positive cases of the 7 evaluated is equivalent to 40%; and finally the Pitbull Terrier breed presented 1 positive case of the 2 evaluated, which represents 10% and finally the age in the category of 2 to 3 years, 22 samples were evaluated, of which 5 were positive, which represents (42%); This is followed by the category of 7 to 12 months, with 13 samples analyzed obtaining 4 positive cases, equivalent to (33%); Finally, the category from 2 to 6 years, 15 samples were evaluated, resulting in 3 positive samples and representing (25%). The data established using Chi-Square yielded results that are significant, therefore the hypothesis is accepted that there is a presence of Malassezia pachydermatis in dogs (Canis lupus familiaris) with dermatological lesions in the Salitre canton, province of Guayas.
