| Samenvatting: | In recent years, the cost of resources used in pork production has risen, which produces economically negative effects on pork production, the feed representing between 60 to 70 % of total costs. The research objective was to investigate the different sustainable alternatives for pig cattle in the growing and finishing stage in the tropics. The bibliographic review was carried out through the use of scientific journals, books and published articles. The following results were found in the bibliographic review. “Evaluation of the addition of three different cereals to a protein concentrate in the feeding of pigs in the growth phase in the Puebloviejo Canton” using 12 pigs obtained that the treatment with 60 % corn flour + 40 % concentrate was the one that managed to obtain greater weight gain and feed conversion, it was also the one that provided the best result in the benefit-cost variable with a value of 1.58. Cedeño, (2016) in his research found that the best treatment was T2 with an implementation of 5 % palm kernel, in which the pigs had an average daily weight of 470g. Diaz, (2023) in his research "Evaluation of the effect on the addition of different percentages of cassava yogurt to the diet for pigs in the growth and fattening stage" managed to obtain that the treatment to which he added 20 % of cassava yogurt showed greater weight gain throughout the 12 weeks of the study. The rise in the prices of cereals and food supplements are aspects that affect small and medium-sized pig producers around the world, since the cost of feed plays a decisive role in the profitability of pig companies. |
