Summary:The artificial floating islands are a system of phytoremediation of polluted waters similar to natural wetlands. The objective of this investigation was to evaluate the effect of the achira “C indica” in the removal of nitrates NO-3, phosphates PO.4 in Cutuchi River. For this reason, an island of 0.60 cm2 was installed in a 115-liter body of water. (Treatment 1) three repetitions and one witness. The equations of the parameters removed, were every 21 days; as as the development of the plant for four months. The percentages of removal were 54,11% of nitrates,56.22% phosphates The system with the Canna indica constitutes an alternative to improve water quality.
