Čoahkkáigeassu:The company PASTOLAC belonging to the Pastocalle Agroecological Association, it is located in the province of Cotopaxi, Pastocalle parish. In this company, approximately 3,200 liters of cheese whey per month are generated, as a by-product of the cheese-making process. Said waste, fundamentally, it is dumped to the surrounding land of the company, with the consequent contamination of the same; and a small amount is sold for pig feed. On the other hand, the company has an annual electricity consumption of approximately 19,264 kWh that represents an annual cost of $ 1,734, constituting 73% of this cost, associated with the consumption of electricity in the cold room. Therefore, the main objective of this work is to design a plant for the treatment of whey and the production of biogas for the generation of electric power to eliminate and / or reduce the problems previously exposed. To comply with this objective, a plant was designed, which is basically made up of a mixing tank, the biodigester, which has a heat exchanger incorporated to heat the substrate up to the operating temperature. The total cost of the plant is $ 1989, with the elements being the most expensive elements for labor (42% of the total cost), tanks: feeding tank, biodigester and discharge tank (22% of the total cost) and the water heater required for heat exchange system (7% of the total cost) of the treatment plant. The daily production of biogas is estimated at approximately 20m3 with an energy content equivalent to 24 kWh / day, which would allow the company to satisfy 33% of the electricity needs. The resulting bio-fertilizer could be used as fertilizer for the crops, and the same company can sell it to farmers in the area or its members.
