Shrnutí:Reading is an essential skill in the academic and personal development of children, as it allows them to access knowledge, strengthen their critical thinking and improve their oral and written expression. However, in the educational setting, many students have difficulties in reading comprehension, which limits their school performance and autonomous learning. In this context, the present study investigated the impact of storytelling as a pedagogical strategy to improve reading comprehension in students of General Basic Education at the “Carlos Julio Arosemena Tola” School in the Quevedo Canton, identifying the persistence of low levels of reading comprehension despite the efforts of teachers and current educational policies. In order to design a storytelling program adapted to the needs of children, a quantitative methodology was used with a non-experimental design based on surveys applied to teachers. The results revealed that storytelling favors the interaction of students with texts, stimulates their imagination and promotes language development. Storytelling was consolidated as an effective tool to strengthen reading comprehension in children, enhancing their cognitive development, creativity and interest in reading. Its structured integration into the school curriculum is recommended to ensure its sustainability and maximize its impact on learning, consolidating it as a key strategy in the teaching of reading.
