Achoimre:In higher education in the distance mode, there is a need to strengthen collaborative learning techniques. The aim of this research is to identify the problem of working in groups in higher education. The methodology has a mixed approach nested in the quantitative with a survey applied to 138 students and the process carried out is through an action research approach due to the interpretation of the social phenomenon mentioned. In this research, the shortcomings of group work are identified, obtaining recommendations to promote this learning in the distance modality. Results of the survey were analyzed to conclude that students confuse disorganized group work with collaborative work, recognize the benefits of this work, but point out as a great challenge the participation and responsibility of classmates. The lack of leadership in the groups is also highlighted and 53% of the students surveyed state that they prefer individual activities. It is important that students recognize the true characteristics and implications of collaborative work and be trained to take more leadership roles in this type of work.
