Beskrivelse
Summary:This research work investigates the factors that affect the English language teaching/learning process in the Ecuadorian public high schools. The study was conducted in five public high schools in Quito and Cumbaya. The author observed fifteen classes and evaluated several parameters such as the factors concerning teachers, factors concerning students, factors concerning schools and factors concerning institutions. The age of the students in this study ranged between 13 and 19. A quantitative analysis was done tabulating the surveys filled in by each observed teacher and by one randomly chosen student in each class. An observation form for each observed class was filled in, tabulated, and contrasted with what the teacher and students stated about the teaching/learning process. The results of this study show that the situation of the teaching-learning process in the selected public schools is very primitive due a lack of resources, teachers with very low levels of English language command, class size, and students´ interest and motivation.
