- Description
The petrographic, structural and geomorphological analysis carried out in the Cordillera Real has clearly established two lithological units (Alao-Paute Unit and El Pan Unit), which have been correlated previously with Alao Arc. These consist of andesites, quartzite and greenstone slightly metamorphosed (Alao-Paute Unit) and, volcano-sedimentary rocks metamorphosed at greenschist facies (El Pan Unit). These units are affected by system faults of NE-SW trend called Paute and Resul. In the study area, the contact between these Units is tectonic. The Tampanchi complex is a mafic-ultramafic intrusion that cut Alao Arc with trend NE-SW, parallel to Paute and Resul fault. It has a lenticular shape with 4-5 km length and ~2.6 km width. It consists of clinopyroxenite, hornblendite, gabbro, tonalite (mylonitic structure) and anorthite. The suggested age to the Tampanchi complex is lower Cretaceous (~140-115 Ma), a period of extensive regimen in South America (Spikings et al. 2014). The structural and stratigraphic analysis indicate that the El Pan and Tampanchi complex was deformed together by regional events.
