The purpose of the research was to analyze Afro-Ecuadorian migration in Spain, its social and it cultural representation during the period of 1998 - 2018. A qualitative research with a narrative design was used. The applied technique was in-depth interviews of twenty-four Afro-Ecuadorians residing in the cities of Almería, Elche, and Santander. Among the most relevant findings stand out the re-signification of social and cultural representations due to the change of Afro-Ecuadorians’ initial expectations in contrast to what they found upon arrival in Spain. This situation led them to face a process of readjustment, in which the initial social representations were rethought to adapt to the new context and the new reality as Afro-Ecuadorian migrants.
La investigación tuvo como propósito analizar la migración afroecuatoriana en España, sus representaciones sociales y culturales, durante el período 1998 – 2018. Se utilizó el tipo de investigación cualitativa con un diseño narrativo, la técnica aplicada fue la entrevista en profundidad, por medio de la cual se entrevistaron a veinticuatro afroecuatorianos/as que residen en las ciudades de Almería, Elche y Santander. Dentro de los hallazgos más relevantes resalta el hecho de la resignificación de las representaciones sociales y culturales por cuanto las expectativas iniciales que tenían los/as afroecuatorianos/as con respecto a lo que iba a pasar a su llegada a España no estaban acordes con la realidad encontrada. Dicha situación los condujo a afrontar un proceso de readaptación, por medio del cual se replantearon las representaciones sociales iniciales, con el fin de poder adaptarlas al nuevo contexto y a la nueva realidad como migrantes afroecuatorianos/as.
