Estudios preliminares en la reducción de labranza en cebada, maíz y trigo en la Sierra ecuatoriana

Se realizaron tres ensayos de reducción de labranza en los cultivos de cebada, maíz y trigo, en la Sierra ecuatoriana: a) Comparación de cuatro sistemas de preparación de suelo para cebada. Los tratamientos fueron: A. Sistema mecanizado común (arado y rastra de discos). B. Labranza reducida (rastra de discos) C. Labranza reducida y herbicida (rastra de discos y Gramoxone). D. Cero labranza (siembra directa después de la aplicación de Gramoxone) Promediando los resultados de tres años (1976, 1977 y 1978), no se detectó diferencia significativa entre los rendimientos, sin embargo, las utilidades fueron diferentes, siendo el tratamiento D el mejor, seguido por los tratamientos B, A y C en ese orden. b) Comparación de tres sistemas de preparación de suelo para maíz. Los tratamientos fueron: A. Sistema mecanizado común (arado y rastra de discos). B. Labranza reducida (arado de cincel y rastra de discos). C. Cero labranza (siembra directa después de la aplicación de Gramoxone). El rendimiento del tratamiento B fue mejor ( p = 0,10 ) que el del tratamiento. A, pero no hubo diferencia entre A y C ni entre B y C. La utilidades demostraron una gran diferencia entre los tratamientos B y C, siendo más rentables que A.
Three experiments evaluating the effects of reduced seed bed preparation were carried out in the Ecuadorean Sierra: a) Comparison of four systems of soil preparation for barley. The treatments were: A. The traditional mechanized system (disc plough and disc harrow). B. Reduced tillage (disc harrow). C. Reduced tillage and herbicide (disc harrow and Gramoxone). D. Zero tillage (direct seeding after Gramoxone application). When the results for die three years (1976, 1977 and 1978) were averaged there was found to be no significant difference between the yields. However the margins (value of harvest less production costs) were different, treatment D being the best followed by B, A and C in that order. b) Comparison of three systems of soil preparation for maize. The treatments were: A. The traditional mechanized system (disc plough and disc harrow) B. Reduced tillage (chisel plough and disc harrow). C. Zero tillage (direct seeding after Gramoxone application). The yield of treatment B was significantly (p = 0.10) better than that of treatment A but there was no significant difference between A and C or between B and C. The margins of treatments B and C were very much greater than that for treatment A.
