Comparación de tres métodos de cosecha en el cultivo de papa

Con el presente ensayo se compararon los costos de la cosecha de papa empleando tres sistemas; manual con azadón, cavadora de cadena sinfín y cavadora de molinete. Se calcularon los costos por hectárea de la cosecha para un rango de superficies cavadas, encontrándose que se justifica un cambio del sistema manual al sistema semi-mecanizado empleando la cavadora de molinete en las 16,76 hectáreas. El cambio de la cosecha manual, al semi-mecanizado empleando la cavadora de cadena sinfín, se justifica con una superficie de 18,86 hectáreas; y, el cambio entre cavadora de molinete y cavadora de cadena a las 24,42 hectáreas. Además el porcentaje de papas dejadas en el suelo, después de la cosecha, no difirió significativamente entre sistemas. Mientras tanto, el daño sufrido por las papas fue mucho mayor en el sistema manual. La cosecha fue mucho más rápida que la cosecha manual y, consecuentemente, permite un mayor aprovechamiento del mercado.
The study compared the costs of three methods of harvesfing: manual, using an "azadón" or large hoe, elevator digger, and spinner. The costs per hectare of harvesting were calculated for a range of areas harvested and it was found that a change from the manual system to the spinner could be justified with 16,76 hectares. The change from manual to elevator digger was justified at .18.86 hectares and from spinner to elevator digger at 24.42 hectares. The percentage of potatoes left in the ground after harvesting did not differ significantly between treatments but the damage done to the potatoes was much less in the semi—mechanised systems. Mechanising the harvest made it much more rapid and henee would allow benefit to be taken of the high potato pnces in the widly fluctuating Ecuadorian market.
