Este artículo presenta los resultados de un análisis de los rasgos que afectan la actividad empresarial y una evaluación de los aspectos que promueven el espíritu empresarial y la sostenibilidad de las pequeñas y medianas empresas en la ciudad de Cuenca. El análisis se centró en factores externos e internos, que promueven y a la vez limitan el proceso emprendedor; respectivamente estos factores son: el financiamiento, las condiciones del mercado, el marco legal, el nivel educativo, el comportamiento empresarial y la motivación. Se recopilaron datos a través de una encuesta transversal descriptiva, aplicada a 200 empresas, en la cual se obtuvo información general sobre el emprendedor, factores que afectan la iniciativa empresarial y la sostenibilidad de la empresa. Los autores esperan que los resultados de la encuesta intensifiquen la discusión entre los actores del sector público, no gubernamentales y privados, sobre políticas que estimulen el surgimiento de nuevas empresas y el fortalecimiento de las existentes.
This article presents the results of an analysis of the traits affecting entrepreneurial activity and the evaluation of the aspects that promote the entrepreneurial spirit and the sustainability of small to medium-sized businesses in the city of Cuenca. The analysis focused on external and internal factors, favoring and hindering the entrepreneurial process, respectively financing, market conditions and legal framework, and the level of education, entrepreneurial and motivational behavior. Data was collected via a descriptive cross-sectional survey, applied to 200 businesses, gathering general information about the manager, and the factors affecting entrepreneurship and company sustainability. The authors expect that the results of the survey will positively enhance the discussion between public, non-governmental and private actors and instructors on key policies stimulating the emergence of new enterprises and the strengthening of existing ones.
