His reflection is traversed by a deep knowledge of man, world and life. His inspiration brings elements that make it possible a very wide and suggestive work in several genres: poetry, essay, and critic. The Sun Stone, Octavio Paz´s most significant poem, deals with the central topics of the western lyric: the couple and the lovable presence as a reflection of a “body of light”, man´s pilgrimage, woman and her symbology, time, history, and the vital cycle. This sustained and eloquent poetic composition is covered by enormous expressivity and a great metaphoric scope. Its symbology is sculptured on the edge of that giant wrapped stone that the Mexicas, Aztecs or Nahoas regarded as their calendar, The Sun Stone, which was understood as the fusion of the cosmic world. This enormous poem is conveyed into a media episode between the original experiences of the poet in his act of creation and the ulterior experience, as a critic, in his act of recreation. Paz would have said, “It is the place where poetry and man meet”.
Su reflexión está atravesada por un profundo conocimiento del hombre, del mundo y de la vida y por su enorme inspiración, elementos que posibilitan una obra fecunda y sugestiva en variados géneros: poesía, ensayo, crítica. Piedra de Sol, el más grande poema de Octavio Paz, aborda los grandes temas de la lírica occidental: la pareja y la presencia amorosa como trasunto de un “cuerpo de luz”, el peregrinaje del hombre, la mujer y su simbología, el tiempo, la historia, el ciclo vital. Enorme expresividad y gran proyección metafórica reviste a esta sostenida como elocuente composición poética. Su simbología está esculpida en el borde de aquella monumental piedra recubierta que para los mexicas, aztecas o nahoas se traduce en su calendario: Piedra de Sol -entendida como la fusión del mundo cósmico. Este enorme poema se ubica entre la experiencia original del poeta en su acto de creación y la ulterior experiencia del crítico en su acto de recreación. Paz habría dicho: “Es este el lugar en el que se encuentran la poesía y el hombre”.
