Software as a service for online medical appointments, a model applied to the health sector

In order to enhance the services provided by the public health system in the Miguel H. Alcívar hospital outpatient department in the canton of Sucre-Ecuador, it was raised to apply a software as a service in the cloud to automate the scheduling of references and appointments online. To ensure the service availability there were two different internet service providers, besides a redundant server, load balancing, and failover were set up through the PfSense free distribution, which ensures that the internet service be available if one of them fail. The software implementation improved the hospital solving capacity, eased the job related to schedule medical appointments and reduced the booking time to three minutes; this allowed to decrease the management costs and to improve the patients satisfaction.
Con la intención de mejorar los servicios prestados por el sistema de salud pública en el área de consulta externa del hospital Miguel H. Alcívar del cantón Sucre-Ecuador, se planteó aplicar un software como servicio en la nube, para automatizar el agendamiento de referencias y citas previas en línea. Para asegurar con disponibilidad del servicio, se contó con dos diferentes proveedores de internet y se configuró un servidor de redundancia, balanceo de carga y failover, usando la distribución libre de PfSense, lo cual garantiza que elservicio de internet esté disponible si uno de los proveedores falla. La implementación del software mejoró la capacidad resolutiva del nosocomio, facilitó la tarea de los agendadores en la administración de los turnos del médico y redujo los tiempos de reservación de citas en tres minutos; lo cual permitió reducir los costos de gestión y mejorar los niveles de satisfacción del paciente.
