This article reports on a study conductedamong students who participated in international exchange programs at the Universidad de Cuenca, Ecuador. The intent of the study was to compare student opinions about the value of an international experience to the literature on the topic, and to investigate what students saw asbenefits and challenges of the experience and how the experience contributed to their personal and professional development. The study found significant differences of opinion between incoming and outgoing students with regard to their motivations to study abroad, their personal and professional development as a result of the exposure and about their experiences with the host institution. The article advocates greater attention to the international experience among the universities in the country and provides suggestions for future research
Este art?culo trata sobre un estudio realizado entre los estudiantes que participaron en los programas de intercambio de la Universidad de Cuenca, Ecuador. El objetivo del estudio fue comparar las opiniones de los estudiantes sobre el valor de la experiencia internacional con la literatura sobre el tema, e investigar lo que los estudiantes vieron como beneficios y retos de la experiencia, y c?mo la experiencia aport? a su desarrollo personal y profesional. El estudio encontr? importantes diferencias de opini?n entre los estudiantes que salieron de la universidad y aquellos que llegaron a ella con relaci?n a sus motivaciones para estudiar en el extranjero, su desarrollo personal y profesional como resultado del contacto con el mundo, y sobre sus experiencias con la instituci?n anfitriona. El art?culo aboga por mayor atenci?n a la experiencia internacional entre las universidades del pa?s y brinda sugerencias para futuras investigaciones
