- Description
In this article, Calothrix algae exposed to AgNO3 solution and ultrasonication was performed to enhance the production of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs). As synthesized AgNPs solutions were examined by UV-vis spectroscopy, dynamic light scattering (DLS), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. UV-vis analysis confirmed the surface plasmon resonance (SPR) for AgNPs at ?max = 520 nm. TEM and DLS analysis indicating that the AgNPs are spherical and oval shape (anisotropic) with size ranging from 30 to 200 nm. XRD confirmed the reduction of Ag+ to Ag0 and the formation of semicrystalline AgNPs. Further, the colloidal AgNPs showed remarkable antioxidant activity (52.17 % equivalent to 20.76 ?g/mL of gallic acid) against 1, 1-diphenyl- 2- picrylhydrazyl. This ultrasonic combination approach for the synthesis of AgNPs by Calothrix algae is more eco-friendly than purely chemical synthesis and opens new scope of algae in nanotechnology.
