CULTIVO DE UNA CEPA CAROTENOG?NICA DE CHLOROCOCCUM SP. (CHLOROPHYTA: CHLOROCOCCALES) AISLADA DE RIZOSFERA DE VICIA FABA (HABA)

Chlorococcum sp. was isolated from rhizosphere of bean (Vicia faba) in a farm field in Latacunga, Cotopaxi, Ecuador, in order to evaluate the effect of inducing factors of carotenogenesis. The microalgae growth was monitored in batch culture with medium BBM. Exponentially, the higher cell density of 13,2 x 106 cel.ml-1 and chlorophyll a content, 3,65 ?g.ml-1 was obtained. Instead under decrease cell, the maximum content of carotenoids was of 8,58 ?ml-1. The highest population of carotenogenic cells was induced with NaCl (0.5%) + light (115,2 ?mol.m-2 s-1) and temperature (30 ? 2?C) with 3,4 x 106 cel. ml-1. This strain of Chlorococcum sp. in batch cultures is able to accumulate carotenoids with age of the culture, and the combined effect of salinity, temperature and irradiancie.
Chlorococcum sp. fue aislada de rizosfera de haba (Vicia faba) en un campo agr?cola de Latacunga, Cotopaxi, Ecuador, con el objeto de evaluar el efecto de factores inductores de carotenog?nesis. El crecimiento de la microalga con medio BBM fue monitoreado en cultivo discontinuo. En fase exponencial se obtuvo la mayor densidad celular de 13,2 x 106 cel.ml-1 y contenido de clorofila a, con 13,65 ?g.ml-1. En cambio, en la fase de decrecimiento se produjo el m?ximo contenido de carotenoides con 8,58 ?g.ml-1. La mayor poblaci?n de c?lulas carotenog?nicas fue inducida en el tratamiento con NaCl (0,5%) + iluminaci?n (115,2 ?mol.m-2 s-1) y temperatura (30 ? 2?C), con 3,4 x 106 cel. ml-1. Esta cepa de Chlorococcum sp. es capaz de acumular carotenoides con la edad del cultivo, y con el efecto combinado de la salinidad, temperatura e iluminaci?n.
