Letrados migrantes en tiempos de crisis. Las trayectorias de tres neogranadinos ilustrados en el Ecuador, 1857-1862 (Estudios)

Description: The present article explores the careers of three young Granadians in Ecuador between 1857 and 1862. By examining their activities in the political turmoil of the mid-nineteenth century, the article highlights identities shared by the intellectuals of both countries and suggests that their had common reactions to the clashes. Those scholars took refuge in forms of enlightened social interactions, tempered their course, and promoted projects that gave legitimacy to their identity as elite proponents of reason and culture. That is how they asserted their role as the heirs and advocates of the Enlightenment, to recommend peaceful solutions to disputes and serve as mentors to grassroots sectors of the population.
Este artículo indaga las trayectorias de tres jóvenes granadinos en el Ecuador, entre 1857 y 1862. Mediante el estudio de sus actividades en un tiempo agitado por las crisis políticas de medio siglo, el artículo destaca la existencia de identidades comunes entre los letrados de ambos países y se sugiere que hubo coincidencias ante las crisis. Estos letrados se refugiaron en formas de sociabilidad ilustrada, moderaron sus tendencias e impulsaron proyectos que los legitimaron como élites de la razón y la cultura. Así intentaban defender su lugar y ser reconocidos como depositarios de valores ilustrados, encargados de pacificar discordias y ejercer tutoría sobre los sectores populares.
