Reflecting on Diamela Eltit’s novel, Sumar (2018), Julio Ramos revisits the netting that binds life, literature and politics. In his lecture, Ramos interrogates the forms and categories that make up the bodies of a political unit, within the framework of speculative fiction and scopic environments, as well as the transformations of work and life under contemporary cybernetic and pharmacological regimes. Ramos observes that Eltit’s novel distances itself from the more recognizable practices of contemporary meta-fiction, and rather revitalizes fiction writing as a “craft of language through the relay of voices as the very matter of the act of novelizing”. In particular, Ramos’ reading highlights the danger of the extinction of an entire guild, that of street vendors: the last guardians of a certain form of material life that is vanishing under immaterial, hygienic, securitarian and cruel regimes.
En diálogo con la novela de Diamela Eltit, Sumar (2018), Julio Ramos vuelve sobre el entramado que junta vida, literatura y política. En su lectura, Ramos interroga las formas y las categorías que integran los cuerpos de una suma política, en el marco de una ficción especulativa y entorno escópico, sobre las transformaciones del trabajo y de la vida en regímenes cibernéticos y farmacológicos contemporáneos. Ramos observa que la novela de Eltit se distancia de las prácticas más reconocibles de la metaficción contemporánea, y más bien repotencia la escritura de la ficción como un “trabajo artesanal de la lengua mediante el relevo de voces como materia misma del acto de novelar”. De manera especial, destaca en la lectura que propone Ramos el peligro de extinción de todo un gremio, el de los vendedores ambulantes: últimos custodios de una vida material que se esfuma bajo los regímenes inmateriales, higiénicos, securitarios y descarnados.
