Aplicación del cuestionario neuropathy symptoms score (nss) para la determinación de neuropatía periférica en pacientes diabéticos en el Hospital General Macas, enero - julio 2017.

Antecedentes: La neuropatía periférica es la complicación sintomática más frecuente en los pacientes diabéticos, siendo la principal causa de lesiones y de amputación de miembros inferiores.\nObjetivo: Aplicar el cuestionario Neuropathy Symptoms Score (NSS) para determinar la neuropatía periférica en pacientes diabéticos en el Hospital General Macas en el período de enero a julio del 2017.\nMetodología: Se realizó una investigación de tipo descriptiva y transversal. La muestra estuvo conformada por 83 pacientes diabéticos atendidos en el Hospital General Macas. Se aplicó una encuesta que incluía el cuestionario Neuropathy Symptoms Score (NSS), la información fue ingresada en formularios y se procesaron los datos utilizando el programa SPSS V15.0 mediante frecuencia absoluta, porcentaje y Chi cuadrado, los cuales fueron representados en tablas.\nResultados: La prevalencia de neuropatía periférica en los diabéticos fue de 96,4%, con un 48,8% de casos severos. De los pacientes afectados el 61,3% son mujeres, el 43,8% tiene entre 51 y 55 años, el 68,8% es de etnia mestiza y el 90,4% tiene de 5 a 10 años de evolución de la diabetes.\nConclusiones: Existe una alta prevalencia de neuropatía periférica en los diabéticos con edades entre 40 y 55 años atendidos en el Hospital General Macas. No se encontró asociación entre la edad, el sexo, la etnia o el tiempo de evolución de la diabetes con la gravedad de la neuropatía.
Background: Peripheral neuropathy is the most frequent symptomatic complication in diabetic patients, being the main cause of injuries and amputation of lower limbs.\nObjective: Apply the Neuropathy Symptoms Score (NSS) to determine the peripheral neuropathy in diabetic patients at General Macas Hospital from January to July, 2017.\nMethodology: A descriptive and transversal research was carried out. The sample consisted of 83 diabetic patients treated at General Macas Hospital. A survey that included the Neuropathy Symptoms Score (NSS) was applied, information was entered into forms and data were processed using the SPSS V15.0 program using absolute frequency, percentage and Chi square, which were represented in tables.\nResults: The prevalence of peripheral neuropathy in diabetics was 96.4%, with 48.8% of severe cases. Of the patients affected, 61.3% were women, 43.8% were between 51 and 55 years old, 68.8% were mestizo and 90.4% had a 5-10 year history of diabetes.\nConclusions: There is a high prevalence of peripheral neuropathy in diabetic patients between the ages of 40 and 55 attended at General Macas Hospital. No association was found between age, sex, ethnicity or the time of evolution of diabetes with the severity of neuropathy
