El traje del Emperador: Un análisis a la teoría institucional del arte

Description: Este es un análisis de la teoría institucional del arte de George Dickie, la cual sostiene que el arte es de naturaleza institucional; es decir, la obra de arte, el artista y el arte mismo, son producto de una serie de ideas y prácticas institucionalizadas por la sociedad. Desde esta visión, si algo es una obra de arte, ha llegado a serlo como consecuencia de la posición que ocupa dentro de un marco o contexto institucional y no necesariamente gracias a las cualidades intrínsecas de la obra. Como resultado del análisis, este trabajo cuestiona algunos de los postulados de la teoría institucional y reflexiona sobre la necesidad de otras propuestas alternativas para entender la complejidad de la naturaleza del arte.
This work constitutes an analysis of George Dickie’s Institutional Theory of Art, an hypothesis which maintains that art is by nature institutional. In other words, the artwork, the artist and art itself are all products of a series of ideas and practices institutionalized by society. From this standpoint, if something is considered to be a work of art, it has become so as a result of the position it occupies within an institutional context or framework and not necessarily due to the intrinsic qualities of the work. Using Dickie's analysis as a basis, this paper questions some of the principles of Institutional Theory and reflects on the need for alternative proposals that facilitate an understanding of the complex nature of art.
