En el Dispensario del Seguro Social Campesino de Pacoche, Cantón Manta, Provincia de Manabí, se desarrolló un proyecto denominado “Enfermedad periodontal y necesidades de tratamiento en pacientes afiliados”, cuyo objetivo primordial fue estudiar cuales son las necesidades de tratamiento frente a las necesidades periodontales de los mismos. El presente fue un estudio descriptivo transversal, el cual determinó el estado periodontal y la necesidad de tratamiento de los afiliados, tomando en cuenta a aquellos que no se encontraban enfermos con ninguna otra patología sin importar el sexo y que cooperaron para el examen periodontal. Se elaboró una ficha de extracción de información y se desarrolló un odontograma para verificar el alcance de los objetivos planteados. Los resultados fueron que el 39% pertenece al grupo de 56 y + años; el 62% de género masculino; y, el 48% tienen escolaridad secundaria completa; el 61% de ellos padece de gingivitis asociada a desórdenes sanguíneos, deficiencias nutricionales, tumores, factores genéticos, e infecciones víricas, entre otras; el 38% de ellos tiene periodontitis asociada a enfermedades sistémicas; el 43% de ellos necesita mejorar su cepillado dental; el 99% necesita eliminar el cálculo y exodoncia; y, el 35% tiene índice 4, es decir, periodontitis simple; el 23% índice 1, gingivitis marginal y/o papilar y/o difusa localizada; el 19% índice 5, o sea, periodontitis compuesta; el 15% índice 2, es decir, gingivitis marginal y/o papilar y/o difusa generalizada; y 8% índice 3, gingivitis hiperplásica. El proyecto tuvo la acogida deseada, ya que se consiguió que tanto directivos como el equipo de salud que laboran en este Dispensario, se empoderen del proyecto, lo que permitió el éxito del mismo.
The “Periodontal disease and the need for treatment in affiliated patients” project took place at the Pachoche Rural Social Security Dispensary, city of Manta, Province Of Manabí; its main objective was to determine which the treatments needed to face periodontal disease in this population are. This was a cross-sectional descriptive study that determined the periodontal status and the need for treatment in people affiliated to this Rural Social Security, considering those who had no other pathologies, of both genders, and who cooperated with periodontal examination. An information collection sheet and an odontogram were elaborated in order to verify the reach of the goals set. The results were that 39% of the people belong to the 56+ years of age group; 62% were men; and 48% completed their high school education; 61% of them have gingivitis associated to blood disorders, nutritional deficiencies, tumors, genetic factors, and viral infections, among other problems; 38% had periodontitis associated to systemic diseases; 43% need to improve their tooth-brushing technique; 99% need plaque removal and exodontias; and 35% has index level 4, which is to say simple periodontitis; 23% have index level 1, which is localized marginal and/or papillary and/or diffuse gingivitis; 19% have index level 5, which is compound periodontitis; 15% have index level 2, which is general marginal and/or papillary and/or diffuse gingivitis; and 8% have index level 3; which hyperplasic gingivitis. This project had the expected acceptance in the sense that it had the authorities and health teams that work at the Dispensary take over the project; this allowed its success.
