En la ciudad de Guayaquil, existe una escasez de oportunidad de empleo para profesionales en Turismo sin previa experiencia laboral. Por esta razón y las tasas de desempleo juvenil, el Ministerio de Trabajo ofrece dos programas para otorgar a estudiantes universitarios experiencia en distintos campos laborales a nivel nacional. Sin embargo, en lo que respecta a Hotelería y Turismo se debe buscar nuevos caminos que permitan mejorar o desarrollar nuevas habilidades, destrezas y amplíe la visión de los estudiantes. Por lo cual, el estudio busca descubrir las ventajas competitivas que los programas Work & Travel producen en los estudiantes y comprobar si ser partícipe del programa influye en el proceso de selección de candidatos en distintas cadenas hoteleras en la ciudad. Por lo tanto, la pregunta de investigación es la siguiente: ¿inciden los intercambios laborales universitarios en la oportunidad de empleo turístico de estudiantes y graduados en el área de Hotelería y Turismo dentro de Guayaquil? La interrogante es respondida mediante encuestas a participantes de programas Work & Travel, los cuales corroboran el valor agregado que estos intercambios aportan. Adicional, al momento de las entrevistas, las respuestas recibidas por especialistas del sector hotelero y académico reafirman que los intercambios laborales universitarios sí inciden en la oportunidad de empleo turístico, especialmente en el sector hotelero. Al tener esto en cuenta, se crea una propuesta de asesoramiento mediante dos guías ilustrativas tanto para estudiantes como para empresas de intercambios, con el fin de optimizar y mejorar el uso de aquellos intercambios laborales universitarios.
In Guayaquil city there is a lack of job opportunity for Tourism professionals without previous work experience. For this reason and for the youth unemployment rate, the Labor Ministry offers two programs to grant university students experience in different occupational fields at national level. However, in regards Hospitality and Tourism it is important to find new ways that allow improving or developing new skills and abilities and that expand the vision of the students. Whereby, this study seeks to discover the competitive advantages that Work & Travel programs produce in students and corroborate if being part of this programs influence in the personnel selection process in different hotel chains in the city. Therefore, the research question is the following: do university labor exchanges influence the opportunity for touristic employment of students and graduates in the area of hospitality and tourism in Guayaquil? The question is answered through surveys of program participants, which corroborate the added value that these exchanges provide. In addition, at the moment of interviews, the answers received by specialists in both the hotel and academic sector, reassure that university labor exchanges do influence the touristic employment opportunity, especially in the hospitality industry. With this in mind, an advisory proposal is created through two illustrative guides for both students and exchange companies, in order to optimize and improve the use of those university work exchanges.
