Este trabajo de investigación está enfocado en las técnicas de orquestación del músico Oliver Nelson, con el objetivo de aplicarlas en arreglos musicales. Como punto de partida se propone la transcripción y análisis de tres temas de autoría de este artista para identificar su estilo arreglistico, estos son: “Stolen Moments, “Yearnin´” y “Cascades” del disco The Blues and the abstract truth. El proceso para el cumplimiento del objetivo propuesto en esta tesis se resume en tres pasos. 1) la investigación discográfica para la selección de un álbum que contenga temas destacables para transcribir, en otras palabras, se buscó y escuchó varios discos de la autoría de Nelson para encontrar uno que cumpla con el criterio de la investigación. 2) la transcripción y análisis musical. El procedimiento de este paso se basó en los conocimientos teóricos y prácticos proporcionados por la carrera de música de la Universidad Católica Santiago de Guayaquil. 3) la creación de dos arreglos musicales implementando las técnicas de orquestación estudiadas de Oliver Nelson.
This research work is focused on techniques of orchestration of musician Oliver Nelson, with the aim of applying them in musical arrangements. The Starting point propose the transcription and analysis of three themes of authorship of this artist, to encapsulate his arranging style, these are: "Stolen Moments," Yearnin´" and "Cascades" from the album The Blues and the abstract truth." The process for the fulfillment of the objective proposed in this thesis is summarized in three steps. 1) Discographic research for the selection of topics to transcribe, in other words, several discs authored by Nelson were searched and listened to find one that meets the criteria of this research. 2) Transcription and musical analysis. The basis of this step in the theoretical and practical knowledge, was provided by the career of music of the Catholic University of Santiago De Guayaquil. 3) The creation of two musical arrangements implementing the studied orchestration techniques of Oliver Nelson.
