In countries that maintain a liberal market economy, “Antitrust Law” is essential to maintaining harmonious relations between companies, allowing them to compete freely without disadvantages. In Ecuador, natural and legal persons who may be affected by anti-competitive or unfair conduct are protected by a domestic law called “Ley Orgánica de Regulación y Control del Poder de Mercado”. This law is an additional protection provided by the current constitution, which defines Ecuador as a country of constitutional rights and justice. Also, the constitution requires that capital may not be an end, but only a means, thereby respecting the integrity and dignity of the human being above all. This requirement is in agreement and harmony with the concepts and objectives of the “Ley Orgánica de Regulación y Control del Poder del Mercado”.
