The present research project is based on the adaptation and performance of seven existing rock songs fused with jazz; written for a quintet, that consists on piano, electric bass, electric guitar, drums and vocals. In some occasions, the functions given to the instruments in the original songs change, especially between the electric guitar and the piano, hence creating sonority that maintains the essence of rock and, by using resources from jazz, gives the musical arrangements new harmonic forms and metrics. There are three phases that were developed throughout the course of this project: during the first phase an analysis was made of the original rock songs followed by an analysis of the jazz songs to give a guide and influence to create the musical arrangements. This phase was based mainly on the observation, and it implements a qualitative methodological approach that allows breaking down the sections individually. During the second phase of the paper, the arrangements were elaborated through musical adaptation and the knowledge of the mentioned genres, using a methodological approach of experimentation and exploration. In this phase the musical sheets for the arrangements of the seven songs were produced, accompanied by the encryption and the observation of the different adaptations. Finally, there was the performance phase, which consists of a live concert where the arrangements were presented. The songs that were analyzed: Weird fishes/ arpeggi and Reckoner by Radiohead. Wish you were here by Pink Floyd, Los Libros de la Buena Memoria by Luis Alberto Spinetta; and finally Rezo por vos by Charly García and Spinetta. For each song, an observation was made focusing on the segments worth emphasizing that have formed a fundamental part for the achievement of the musical arrangements. On the other hand, the jazz songs that were analyzed were: The days of wine and roses by Henry Mancini, Maiden voyage by Herbie Hancock, Tuesday wonderland by Esbjorn Svensson Trio and finally Smash by Avishai Cohen.
El presente trabajo se basa en la adaptación e interpretación de siete canciones de rock ya existentes y que se fusionan con jazz; escritas para un quinteto, el cual está conformado por: piano, bajo eléctrico, guitarra eléctrica, batería y voz. En algunos casos se cambió la función de los instrumentos que fueron usados en las canciones originales, sobre todo entre la guitarra y el piano, creando así una sonoridad que mantiene la esencia del rock y usa recursos que provienen del jazz para dar a los arreglos nuevas formas armónicas y métricas. Existen tres períodos que se desarrollaron en el transcurso del trabajo: en la primera parte se realizó un análisis melódico, armónico y rítmico de distintas secciones de las obras originales de rock y en canciones seleccionadas que provienen del jazz. El objetivo de la primera fue encontrar una guía e influencia para realizar los arreglos. Esta etapa se basó en la observación, e implementa un enfoque metodológico cualitativo que permite desmenuzar las secciones individualmente. En la segunda etapa se elaboraron los arreglos mediante la adaptación musical y los conocimientos previos de los distintos géneros utilizando un enfoque metodológico de experimentación y exploración. En esta etapa se muestran secciones de los arreglos que se realizaron, acompañados del cifrado y la observación de las distintas adaptaciones. Por último, está la etapa de interpretación, la cual consiste en un concierto en vivo donde se exponen los arreglos. Las canciones que fueron analizadas son: Weird fishes/ arpeggi y Reckoner de Radiohead respectivamente. Wish you were here de Pink Floyd, Los libros de la buena memoria de Luis Alberto Spinetta y por último Rezo por vos de Charly García y Spinetta. De cada una se observará las partes que sean necesarias recalcar y que han formado parte fundamental para la realización de los arreglos. Por otro lado, los temas de jazz que serán analizados son: The days of wine and roses de Henry Mancini, Maiden voyage de Herbie Hancock, Tuesday wonderland de Esbjorn Svensson Trio y por último Smash de Avishai Cohen.
